Most aligners are designed to gradually shift your teeth over a period of about six to twelve months or longer depending on your specific case. Treatment duration varies but typically lasts between 6 to 27 months, depending on the complexity of the case. The good news is that they are effective in the long run.
Can I eat with my aligners?
Always make sure to remove your aligners beforehand. Aligners are not designed like braces or permanent retainers, and they are more susceptible to cracking or breaking if they are in your mouth while you are chewing your food.
Can I drink with my aligners in?
The safest beverage you can consume with aligners is water. It is important to make sure that your aligners are removed before drinking warm or hot water as this can cause warping to the aligner, which can bring added costs to your treatment.
Coloured beverage need to be consumed after removing your clear aligners as these drinks have the potential to stain your teeth and/or cause damage to your clear aligners. Before consuming any beverage, make sure that it’s right for your dental health. Drinks like sparkling water and soda can be detrimental to your enamel or cause staining that impacts all your hard work.
Do your research to ensure that your drink of choice is not negatively impacting your oral health!
Can I whiten my teeth with aligners?
While it is tempting to use aligners as teeth whitening trays, it is not recommended. This is because whitening trays are meant to be loosely fitted over your teeth to deliver the product for a short period of time to avoid irritation. Aligners are form-fitted and custom-made for your mouth. Teeth whitening substance in between the attachments and the aligners may potentially negate the aligner action. On top of that, the tight fit of your aligners will push out the bleaching agent. The agent can get into your gums and even go down your throat, which can cause a multitude of problems.
