Meet Dr Mahesh Patel

I chose dentistry in the mid 1970’s against a backdrop of recession and rising unemployment. I had no particular attraction towards dentistry. My interest was Astro-physics.
However, I was aware of two things: my interest in the sciences and I was told I had ‘gifted’ hands. I am a great believer is equality in its many forms and I believed anyone can be amongst the best. From the humble beginning of a modest state school, I was awarded four prizes – three prizes in my final dental year. At the age of 25, I became one of the youngest specialist orthodontists as I was lucky to be promoted a year.
It is my pursuit of the arts, photography and music that defines and elevates my difference. This is the unique experience when you visit FIRSTOrtho in its culture and quality. The single minded approach towards creating a better tomorrow: ‘Melius cras creans’.
My interest in orthodontics was kindled when I took my sister to a community dental clinic for an opinion in 1974 about a gap between her upper teeth. I make an effort to drive past that place on my visits to Leicester. It is now a community centre. I often reminisce about how one’s life can be redirected by a chance meeting.
