Steel and Damon Braces

The traditional metal brace may seem quite standard compared to it’s more extravagant evolutions, but this humble appliance is the steel standard for orthodontic treatment.

Steel Braces

These braces are made up of fixed brackets attached to the teeth, which are connected by wires held together by elastic bands. These braces are adjusted every 6-8 weeks to align the teeth to the target position in the mouth.

This option is the most accurate of appliances, giving exacting controlled tooth movements to minute degrees in the correct hands. This accuracy and efficiency mean a reduced overall treatment period.

These braces are robust, meaning fewer breakages. Any necessary repairs that do arise are simple, at no extra cost.

These braces are easy to clean and maintain, meaning less stress for you to maintain a healthy mouth, and the thin design means a more comfortable feel on your lips and tongue.

This type of brace will be visible, but the stainless-steel system is the most accurate, reliable choice.

Damon Braces

Damon braces are a type of metal brace, with some key benefits. They use a self-ligating system for adjustment. Unlike traditional braces which use elastic bands to hold the wires and brackets together, Damon braces use a sliding mechanism.

The brackets of a Damon brace hold the wire in place. This not only makes the movement of the teeth feel more natural and gradual with reduced force, but also allows for easier adjustments by your orthodontists.

Due to the lack of elastic bands the brace is considerably less noticeable. Much like traditional braces, there are standard Damon and the more discreet, clear Damon brace.

Similar to ceramic braces, these discreet braces are less noticeable and so may be preferable for those who value the look of the braces as part of their treatment.

Please note that although clients report feeling less discomfort with the Damon brace, all types of orthodontic treatment can cause some discomfort within the mouth.
